Gold mining ghost town.

Visited the uninhabited ghost town of Waiuta, near Reefton on the west coast of New Zealand. It was established early last century and was the second richest gold mine in the country. The mine closed in 1951 after the main shaft collapsed. All on the inhabitants had to move away as there was no other work available. It is situated on top of a hill and looked very bleak on the day we were there.

Into the forest

Driving through the beech forest, well, I think those are beech trees.

A trip to the West Coast from Nelson

First pic is of the area heading up to Spooners Range.
Photos were taken from a car. Lovely summer weather on the first day of the trip.
